Gemi Rasa

Gemirasa App

Introduction

Gemi Rasa is a mobile app designed as part of a postgraduate project, aimed at enhancing digital food delivery for Sri Lankan village cuisine. Inspired by platforms like Uber Eats, the UI blends global usability standards with local culture to create a simple, intuitive experience. Built with a Mobile-First mindset, the design prioritizes ease of use on smartphones — the most common device among users. From responsive layouts to vibrant dish visuals and quick booking flows, every element is crafted to make ordering village meals fast, familiar, and enjoyable.

Mobile-First Design

Gemi Rasa adopts a Mobile-First Design approach, ensuring the interface performs flawlessly on smartphones — where most users engage with food delivery apps. The UI is built around touch-friendly interactions, clean grids, and adaptive layouts that respond gracefully to various screen sizes and orientations. A standout feature is the liquid glass effect, which brings a sleek, modern feel to the interface. It subtly layers translucency and blur to highlight foreground content like menus and buttons, while keeping backgrounds visually rich and immersive. This design choice enhances readability and aesthetic appeal without distracting from usability. Combined with fast load times, clear visual hierarchy, and vibrant food imagery, the mobile-first strategy delivers a responsive and refined experience — making village cuisine feel not just accessible, but premium.

User-Friendly Booking System

The User-Friendly Booking System in Gemi Rasa simplifies the ordering journey with thoughtfully placed components and logical flow. Highlights include

  • Effortless item selection with category filters and visual cues.
  • Transparent checkout process showing delivery times, prices, and payment options upfront.
  • Support for reordering favorites with a single tap

  • This system minimizes cognitive load and maximizes satisfaction—letting users focus on enjoying their food, not figuring out how to get it.
